What Kind Of Color Is Pavestone SW-7642?

When you decide to paint your interior walls with a new color instead of the old one, it is essential to figure out what color exactly you would like to see on them. And since today the majority of interior paint colors are quite complicated, meaning that they have multiple undertones and various shades, figuring out what type of color you deal with from the very beginning is a must.

If you take a closer look at the Sherwin Williams Pavestone color SW-7642, you will easily notice that it is a beautiful shade of gray, as Encycolorpedia says.

However, it would be wrong to call it simply gray! This particular paint color is rather complex. See, it is basically a warm shade of gray indeed, but at the same time, it shows a bit of greige in it as well.

Nevertheless, we still can’t call it greige. This is why this paint color is so versatile! With its help, you can easily transform your living area into an elegant and cozy space with a touch of individual character.

SW Pavestone Color Undertones

Even before you buy the paint, you need to become fully aware of the paint color undertones. Keep that in mind since it is a very important nuance! Like that, when you know what undertone (or undertones) your paint has, you will be able to tell in advance how exactly the particular paint color will reveal itself and look on your walls after you apply it.

As for the Sherwin Williams Pavestone paint color, this warm gray shade is a bit too warm to look like a true gray in any type of light. And in addition, it has a very soft green undertone that you might not even notice at first. This greenish hint likes to show up more noticeably in certain types of lighting.

So before you buy a couple of cans of this soft gray paint color, we recommend you double-check what types of lighting the room you want to apply it in. See, if you have north-facing light in the room, you may find Pavestone looking grayer versus warmer.

However, it will not be falling icy cold. On the other hand, if you have afternoon western sun or south-facing light in the room where you want to apply this color, you may see it lean a bit more into greige which means that will look warmer on the wall.

How Does Lighting Affect Pavestone Color?

Before you apply the paint of any color onto your walls, you should double-check how it will react to different types of light. Some colors remain almost unchanged no matter how well they are lit.

Others may react to light quite dramatically, being able to transform and reveal the most unexpected shades and undertones that you didn’t even guess about! So if you don’t want to find completely different colors on your walls, make sure this nuance is checked in advance.

How does lighting affect Pavestone

And the very first thing you should take into consideration is the LRV (light reflectance value) of the chosen color. For Sherwin Williams Pavestone, the LRV is 32. It means that this color sits at the very middle of the medium depth range on the color scale!

And now we want you to remember that the lesser the LRV value, the darker the paint color is, and vice versa. So LRV of 32 shows that the color is neither dark nor light, being a somewhat balanced in-between option.

Speaking of SW Pavestone, due to its light reflectivity, this paint color will not make your room look smaller, however, it can’t also be called a good choice for those who want to make their room visually more spacious.

In general, the more natural light you have in your room, the brighter it will be with this paint on the walls. And vice versa. However, no matter what light there is, walls pained with Pavestone will look somewhat enclosed and very cozy!

Just for you to compare, imagine you have an afternoon western sun or south-facing light in the room where you want to apply this color. In this case, you will notice that it leans a bit more into greige, which means that the color will look warmer on the wall. And in a north-facing light, you may find Pavestone paint color looking grayer.

Pavestone SW-7642 in the Kitchen

For the kitchen, this color should be used with a certain caution. Even though it is not dark, we would say you should avoid painting all four walls with it unless the room allows that in terms of space and lighting.

For the ideal effect, you can paint an accent wall with the SeaSerpent only. Or, as an option, you can apply this paint color to your kitchen cabinets and/or furniture to create balanced color accents (that will go especially great with white walls!).

Pavestone SW-7642 in the Bathroom

In a bathroom, this warm gray will look suitable if the room is large enough and if it is well lit. If you don’t have such conditions, expect this color to appear too warm and dark on the bathroom walls, thus making the space visually smaller.

Pavestone SW-7642 in the Bedroom

Surprisingly, this color will fit your bedroom as well! It creates a very tranquil and calming vibe which is ideal for this space. However, again, make sure that your bedroom has enough light during the day. Otherwise, it will look way too “warm” with the greige undertones popping up!

By the way, you can add more light to the room by using white trims and elements, such as throw blankets, curtains, etc. These white spots will make the room look more airier and thus spacious.

Pavestone vs. Dorian Gray

  1. Holly Johannes says:

I’m between SW Pavestone, SW Mindful Gray and SW Collonade Gray for our exterior. Do you see the green undertone in Pavestone when it’s outside on an exterior of a home? I see a slightly blue undertone in Mindful gray and Collonade is super neutral but maybe a little light for an exterior? We also had SW Amazing Gray as a contender but I see the green undertone for sure. We will have a black roof, black front door and black garage doors. Trim will be painted either be SW Pure White or a white to match our new white windows. Help!

  2. Richard says:

Does anyone know the coordinating colors for SW Pavestone? I thought that there might be whites on the list, and some of the gray shades. But what else? I don’t want my home look all gray!

  3. Lisa says:

Hi Melinda, I’m considering painting a couple accent walls in my open space (dining & living room) Pavestone by SW. The idea came to me by someone I follow on IG. The difference in my spaces is that I have a couple mango wood pieces (West Elm – Anton buffet and dining table) and wondering if Pavestone SW would be a horrible match or look really good! Neither piece would be touching the walls and the dining table has off white upholstered chairs you’d probably notice before the wood. Will this clash? It’s hard to picture and the Color Match by SW isn’t working in the dining room light.

    1. Jannet says:

Hello, Lisa! I’d say SW Pavestone won’t clash if you use it as an accent wall color in your space.

I don’t know whether your mango wood piece is dark or light, but SW Pavestone pairs well with both darker and lighter wooden textures, so you will hit the ten anyway!

Besides, white upholstery will add more brightness to the room. If other walls are also white, your open space will read airy and light enough.
